We provide fresh produce to homeless families along with key curriculum to support mental and physical health and wellbeing.

How we do it. Together.

Hunger & Homelessness.

Over the past 30 years, UBH has grown and now serves more than 400 families annually through programs spanning the Westside and South Los Angeles. Over 95% of families we serve remain stably housed more than a year after placement. This success is due to the approach UBH takes, assisting families by providing wraparound services to ensure sustainability and long term success. We have seen first hand how hunger, food insecurity and wellbeing are intrinsically tied to the struggle of families experiencing homelessness. Access to fresh and healthy food is crucial. Educating families about nutrition, wellness and ways to sustain healthy living is a key service contributing to a families success.

Food & Education on THE FARM.

Health and Wellness, and Family Strengthening. As homelessness is extremely traumatic for adults, children, and the family unit as a whole, UBH offers numerous activities designed to promote individual and family healing and strengthening. The UBH FARM is the cornerstone for our programming. Families and the local community come together on our farm to experience the outdoor open space, education and festivities. Local chefs join us in hosting workshops where we harvest food right from the farm and cook a nutritious meal onsite. We provide fresh food and resources for families to take home with them. We work with local families, schools and businesses to volunteer, support and engage with all of our programming on the FARM.

Helping families….Together.

Our farm and wellness programming has proven to make an important impact for the homeless families we serve as well as our local community. Working together with volunteers, schools, local chefs and businesses is the key to our success. Our Farm program offers a unique opportunity to all to engage with nature, give back, learn and grow. We invite you to come and join us in making a difference and for the experience to learn and help us grow. 2020 proved challenging for us to execute our traditional activities out on the farm due to COVID-19, but with creativity and support we were able to continue our programming in a safe way. As we look to 2021 and beyond we are excited to apply our new safety measures and grow our programming and services.

UPWARD BOUND HOUSE

The mission of Upward Bound House is to eliminate homelessness among families with children in Los Angeles by providing housing, supportive services, and advocacy.

We strive to reduce the number of homeless families with minor children who are hungry and living on the streets of Los Angeles, by helping them access basic resources and successfully transition into their own homes with the capacity to remain there permanently.

Every family has the potential to succeed. Upward Bound House helps make that success a reality. We provide homeless families with housing and supportive services to suit their specific needs.

UBH has helped 1,400 families and 2,600 children find their own homes.

Upward Bound House was founded in 1991 as a 501(c)3 organization in Los Angeles county.
